Meet William.

William Caleb Rivera-Bloodworth (b. 1989) is an artist and designer based in Rochester, New York.

Hi there! 👋 I’m William. I am passionate about leaving the world better and more beautiful than I found it.

As an Autistic, gay man from the Deep South living in New York, I navigate the world with a unique, outsider’s perspective.

I’m a Broadway obsessive, lifelong book nerd, HGTV addict, and LEGO builder. I speak five languages and can manage to be a silly goose in all of them. And every day, I drink coffee like I’m one of the Gilmore Girls.

  • I always joke that, while the other children were playing sports, I was teaching myself how to code websites and use Adobe Photoshop. When I wasn’t reading and re-reading Harry Potter or organizing my Beanie Babies, I spent countless hours creating digital worlds on my computer. These skills came in handy during college projects and helped me secure a job as a designer later on.

Since I went to college intending to become an English professor and then ultimately earned a Master’s degree in Spanish Linguistics, it was only natural that I became a professional artist and designer. On my path to an artistic career, I first was a teacher, then worked in retail and IT, before finally landing in the nonprofit marketing sector.

  • Though I’ve been creative for as long as I can remember, I didn’t identify as an artist until the whole world shut down in 2020. In my efforts to find ways to keep myself occupied during the pandemic living alone in my little apartment, I picked up a paintbrush—and I haven’t really stopped ever since!

In my artistic practice, I primarily work in acrylics in an abstract expressionist style. Growing up, I didn’t understand the point of abstract art… until it was the only thing that could express what I was experiencing. Today, I love how abstract pieces can make the intangible tangible.

I explore themes of queerness and neurodivergence, favoring vibrant color, dynamic brushstrokes, and a layering of different textures and techniques. My work often features organic or biomorphic forms—I affectionately call them “blobs”—representing the kaleidoscope of different perspectives and ways of life we each bring.
